I’ve been paddling for over 10 years and I own a number of good paddles. I bought this because I wanted a longer paddle for the open water, but after using it for the first time, it became my favorite. I have paddles that cost over $250 and I like this one better. It’s sturdy enough to stand up to the rough treatment I demand and it’s light enough that my arms don’t get tired late in the day. It’s also long and gives me more power and reach. It’s not super rugged, but it’s also not fragile. The best part is the price. I don’t think you can get a better quality paddle for the price. I love it.
Buying a Second, it’s That Good!
My wife and I recently bought 2 Challenger K1 inflatable kayaks from here on Amazon. We were just starting out in kayaking and didn’t want to spend a lot of money until we were for sure that we would like kayaking and stick with it. The Challenger comes with a paddle but it is flat and kind of short in length. After reading several reviewers say that they were much happier with their kayaks after buying new paddles, we decided to go ahead and pick up one of these 96″ Shoreline paddles and try it out. I really couldn’t believe it but it made a huge difference! I didn’t hate or despise my old paddle, but after using this one, I hated going back to my old paddle! This paddle made it easier to go straight, easier to build and maintain speed, and was much more comfortable (thanks to its light weight and padded hand holds). After one day out on the lake of using this paddle and having to switch off with my wife between this paddle and my old paddle, I’m here on Amazon ordering another! In summary, this paddle is comfortable, easy to use, easy to store since it comes apart into 2 even sections, and makes going straighter and going faster easier compared to the flat style paddles that come with many inflatable kayaks. I looked at local retailers and they all wanted upwards of $60 for a paddle similar to this Shoreline. So for $35, this paddle is a great deal!
There is a good and a bad part to this story, but it all ends happy
I bought this for my Kayak, I wanted to get a first paddle that wasn’t extremely expensive, yet would let me get around properly. I got it delivered and took it on 3 trips, all 5+ miles of paddling. Unfortunately on my 3rd trip, as I was pushing off an oyster bed with the blade, it snapped off. I had to paddle back 3.5 miles with 1 & 1/3 blades – read *not fun*.
I am using it in a canoe and it is so good! My wife and I have been using a short single paddle until this weekend, and we each used the longer Kayak Paddle to our great delight! Push a button and it becomes 2 peices and ready to store, or push the same button and adjust it to your stroke. NICE!
Great Price and Quality for Weekend Warrior
I love this paddle. The curved paddle sections are stout, foam handles are comfy and the quality feel is great for the price. It is fairly light (I purchased another brand 89″ paddle from Amazon too for a little less $ as a backup for my tandum and it weighs a ton and isn’t as nice…wish I bought two of these instead!)
Worked great for a while….BUT..
I noticed compared to my other paddles it was more flimsy and the locking button liked to get stuck every so often… well anyway, I can’t return it now of course.. I’ve used it for like 40 days…well it broken today in the river.. what a pain! the paddle plastic at the end broken right in half. I’ve NEVER had a paddle break, I’ve been paddling for years!
Very good paddle
I bought this Shoreline paddle to replace the paddle came with my Sea Eagle 330. It is a little longer and lighter, which works perfect for me, especially for my AE 10.5 and I like it very much. The shaft is a little too thin but the padding makes up for it. True, there are a lot of good paddles out there, but then you probably have to pay 3 or 4 times for them. You can’t go wrong with this paddle!
Works for meee!
This long paddle works perfectly with my Emotion Glide kayak. I can now ‘yak in a straight line; that’s major. It’s light weight and padded – doesn’t hurt my wussy, girl hands – and comparable to (if not better than) recreational paddles double it’s price.
It works, with some minor issues.
2nd time out, and from there on, they get water inside of the pole. They still work just fine, but the water makes them heavier, harder, more annoying to use. For those of you taking a 4 or 5 mile voyage you will notice this, and to get the water out you need to disconnect he two pieces and lay them upward so that water drains out the pole. If you are into kayaking or canoeing it may be a good idea to invest in something with bigger paddles and is, well, waterproof. Also they seem to be loosening up at where the two pieces connect. I frequently disconnect and reconnect the two pieces for storage and transportation purposes, and do not expect these to last more than a year or two. I would recommend this paddle for only those looking to get into paddling sports.
Worth the price!
First do not believe the photo, if you haven’t noticed the one blade of the paddle is upside down. They do not come this way. They are correct when you get them. The paddle is pretty light still, the padding is nice. The contour of the blade is nice, cheaper plastic but should do the trick. You can adjust your degrees. There are drip rings, which is nice but they slide up and down. Overall, I paid only $35 bucks for a longer paddle which is a great deal. It is close to 240 for those who need to know in real paddle size.
